Product Specific Information

This EP10 monoclonal antibody reacts with human Synaptophysin (Major Synaptic Vesicle Protein p38), a 38-kDa integral membrane protein expressed on neuronal presynaptic vesicles in the brain, spinal cord, retina, neuromuscular junctions, and adrenal medulla. Synaptophysin is also expressed in neuroendocrine tumors and neuroblastomas and plays a role in synaptic vesicle trafficking.

The EP10 antibody recognizes human and hamster synaptophysin but not mouse or rat synaptophysin.

Applications Reported:
Suitable for immunohistochemical staining and immunocytochemistry.

Applications Tested:
Validated by immunohistochemistry on FFPE human tissue using low pH antigen retrieval at ≤10 µg/mL. Antibody titration is recommended for optimal performance.

Fluorophore Information:
eFluor® 660 replaces Alexa Fluor® 647. It emits at 659 nm and is excited with a 633 nm red laser. Ensure instrument compatibility for detection.

Target Information

Synaptophysin is a calcium-binding integral membrane glycoprotein found in presynaptic vesicles of nearly all neurons. It has four transmembrane domains and forms a complex with dynamin at high calcium concentrations, suggesting a role in synaptic vesicle endocytosis. It also regulates short- and long-term synaptic plasticity. Synaptophysin is widely used as a marker for nerve terminals and for differentiating neuroendocrine tumors. Mutations in the gene are associated with X-linked mental retardation.
