Product Specific Information

This O1 monoclonal antibody reacts with galactocerebroside and other lipids found on late oligodendrocyte precursors.
O1 has been reported to react with all species tested (rat, mouse, human, chicken).

Oligodendrocytes are myelin-producing cells within the central nervous system that ensheath axons to facilitate rapid axonal conduction.
O1 and O4 monoclonal antibodies serve as stage-specific markers of oligodendrocyte development:

  • O4 marks early oligodendrocyte progenitors
  • O1 labels late oligodendrocyte progenitors
    O4-positive cells differentiate to become O1-positive and can further mature into oligodendrocytes.

Applications Reported:

  • Flow cytometric analysis
  • Immunohistochemical staining of frozen tissue sections
  • Immunocytochemistry

Applications Tested:
Tested by immunocytochemistry on fixed, differentiated OLN93 cells and can be used at ≤20 µg/mL.
It is recommended that the antibody be carefully titrated for optimal performance.

Fluorophore Information:
eFluor® 660 is a replacement for Alexa Fluor® 647.
It emits at 659 nm and is excited with the red laser (633 nm). Ensure instrument compatibility.

Target Information

Oligodendrocytes produce myelin in the central nervous system, wrapping neuronal axons to enhance signal conduction.
O1 and O4 antibodies act as stage-specific markers:

  • O4: early progenitors
  • O1: late progenitors
    O4-positive cells mature into O1-positive and eventually into fully developed oligodendrocytes.
