Target Information
CD38 (NAD⁺ glycohydrolase) is a type II transmembrane glycoprotein involved in activation, proliferation, and differentiation of mature lymphocytes, and mediates apoptosis of myeloid and lymphoid progenitor cells. It functions as a multi-catalytic ectoenzyme (ADP-ribosyl cyclase, cyclic ADP-ribose hydrolase, NAD⁺ glycohydrolase) and as a cell surface receptor.
Antibodies to CD38 are useful for:
- Subtyping lymphomas and leukemias
- Detecting plasma cells (e.g., myeloma identification)
- Serving as markers for activated B and T cells
CD38 participates in cell adhesion, signal transduction, and calcium signaling. It is highly expressed in pancreas, liver, kidney, malignant lymphoma, and neuroblastoma. CD38 dysfunction is associated with chronic lymphocytic leukemia and Richter’s Syndrome.
