Product Specific Information
- Immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): Incubate antibody for 30 minutes at room temperature.
- For formalin-fixed tissues: Heat tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA (pH 9.0) for 45 minutes at 95°C, then cool at room temperature for 20 minutes before staining.
Target Information
CEA (Carcinoembryonic Antigen, CD66e) is synthesized during fetal gut development and re-expressed in various carcinomas, including intestinal and pulmonary adenocarcinomas. It belongs to the immunoglobulin superfamily, containing one N domain and six immunoglobulin constant-like domains (A1, A2, A3, B1, B2, B3).
Antibodies against CEA are valuable for identifying adenocarcinoma origins and differentiating pulmonary adenocarcinomas (60–70% CEA positive) from pleural mesotheliomas (rarely or weakly CEA positive).
CEA functions as a cell adhesion molecule, mediating both homophilic and heterophilic interactions, and is involved in tissue organization, angiogenesis, apoptosis, tumor suppression, metastasis, and immune modulation.
Multiple transcript variants exist, though not all full-length sequences have been defined.
