PDHB (Pyruvate dehydrogenase E1 component subunit beta, mitochondrial) is also known as PHE1B.
This mitochondrial enzyme is a component of the pyruvate dehydrogenase multienzyme complex (PDH), catalyzing the first oxidative decarboxylation step that converts pyruvate to acetyl-CoA and CO₂.
Mutations in PDHB are associated with pyruvate dehydrogenase E1-beta deficiency (PDHBD).
