ZEB1 (Zinc finger E-box-binding homeobox 1)는 전사 억제 인자로 작용하며 interleukin-2 (IL-2) 유전자 발현을 억제합니다. 또한 ATP1A1 유전자의 프로모터 활성에 영향을 주며, 세포 유형과 cDNA 양에 따라 활성 또는 억제 작용을 합니다. E-cadherin 프로모터를 억제하고 SMARCA4/BRG1을 모집하여 상피-간엽 전이(EMT)를 유도합니다. CTBP1 코리프레서 존재 시 BCL6 전사를 억제하며, 신경분화 시 RCOR1 전사 활성화를 억제하고 신경분화를 양성 조절합니다. ZEB1 유전자 변이는 각막이영양증, 후부다형각막이영양증, Fuchs 내피각막이영양증을 유발할 수 있습니다.
