Target Information
PRDM2, a member of the nuclear/histone methyltransferase superfamily, contains an N-terminal PR domain, an Rb-binding motif, eight Kruppel-like zinc finger motifs, a nuclear hormone-receptor binding motif, and a C-terminal PR-domain binding motif.
It is ubiquitously expressed at low levels and exists in two isoforms:
- RIZ1 (280 kDa) containing the PR-domain
- RIZ2 (250 kDa) lacking the PR-domain
PRDM2 acts as a tumor suppressor, playing a key role in cell growth and differentiation. It interacts with Retinoblastoma protein, estrogen receptor, GATA-3, and the TPA-responsive element (MTE) of the Heme-oxygenase-1 gene. Alterations or inactivation through mutations and hypermethylation are observed in various human cancers, suggesting its potential as a biomarker.
