Target Information
Adaptins are essential components of clathrin-coated vesicles that mediate transport of ligand-receptor complexes from the plasma membrane or trans-Golgi network to lysosomes. The adaptin family includes alpha, beta, beta-prime, and gamma adaptins. Together with medium and small subunits, adaptins form heterotetrameric adaptor complexes that facilitate clathrin-coated pit and vesicle formation. The encoded protein is a gamma-adaptin, part of the adaptor complex large subunit family. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified for this gene.
