Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the TMEM16 family of predicted membrane proteins, also known as anoctamins. Mutations in this gene have been associated with autosomal dominant craniocervical dystonia. Cells with mutations exhibit abnormalities in endoplasmic reticulum-dependent calcium signaling. In rat studies, the ortholog interacts with sodium-activated potassium channels, and gene deletion increases pain sensitivity. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms.
