Target Information
This gene encodes a protein containing a SET domain, 2 LXXLL motifs, 3 nuclear translocation signals (NLSs), 4 plant homeodomain (PHD) finger regions, and a proline-rich region. The encoded protein enhances androgen receptor (AR) transactivation, which can be further increased in the presence of other AR-associated coregulators. It may function as a nucleus-localized transcriptional factor and bifunctional transcriptional regulator. Mutations are associated with Sotos syndrome and Weaver syndrome. Certain childhood acute myeloid leukemia cases involve a cryptic translocation between NSD1 (chromosome 5) and NUP98 (chromosome 11). Two transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been identified.
