PTX4는 pentraxin (PTX) 초과패밀리의 다기능 보존 단백질에 속합니다. Pentraxins는 약 200개의 아미노산으로 구성된 보존된 C-말단 pentraxin 도메인을 가지며, HxCxS/TWxS 서열을 특징으로 합니다.
PTX는 짧은 단백질(C-reactive protein, serum amyloid P protein)과 긴 단백질(PTX3, PTX4)로 나뉘며, 일부 PTX는 선천 면역의 체액성 부분으로 작용하여 응집, 보체 활성화, 옵소닌화 기능을 수행합니다.
