BASP1 (brain acid soluble protein 1) is a membrane-bound protein containing transient phosphorylation sites and PEST motifs. Conservation of proteins with PEST sequences across species supports their functional significance, as these sequences are typically found in proteins with high turnover rates. BASP1 also undergoes N-terminal myristoylation, and its immunological characteristics are species specific.
