Target Information
CYP3A5 is a member of the cytochrome P450 superfamily of enzymes. These monooxygenases catalyze reactions involved in drug metabolism and the synthesis of cholesterol, steroids, and other lipids. The protein localizes to the endoplasmic reticulum and its expression is induced by glucocorticoids and certain pharmacological agents. CYP3A5 metabolizes drugs such as nifedipine and cyclosporine, as well as steroid hormones including testosterone, progesterone, and androstenedione.
