Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is an isoform of xylosyltransferase, belonging to the glycosyltransferase family.
This enzyme transfers xylose from UDP-xylose to specific serine residues of core proteins, initiating glycosaminoglycan chain biosynthesis in proteoglycans such as chondroitin sulfate, heparan sulfate, heparin, and dermatan sulfate.
Enzyme activity is elevated in scleroderma patients and serves as a diagnostic marker for determining sclerotic activity in systemic sclerosis.
