Target Information
The G(0)-G(1) switch gene 2 (G0S2) encodes a mitochondrial protein involved in apoptosis, lipolysis, and triacylglycerol hydrolysis.
In adipocytes, G0S2 binds to adipose triglyceride lipase, reducing lipid droplet breakdown.
In Crohn’s colitis, G0S2 expression correlates with increased non-converted lipid content.
Mutations in G0S2 are common in squamous lung cancer, while epigenetic silencing occurs in breast cancer, impairing apoptosis regulation.
When G0S2 is active, it mediates Bcl-2/Bax heterodimer function, promoting apoptosis of aberrant cells.
