Target Information
APEH (Acylpeptide Hydrolase) catalyzes the hydrolysis of the terminal acetylated amino acid from small acetylated peptides. The resulting acetyl amino acid is further processed to acetate and a free amino acid by aminoacylase.
APEH gene is located on chromosome 3 (3p21), near the aminoacylase gene. Deletions in this region are associated with reduced aminoacylase activity.
APEH is a homotetrameric protein (~300 kDa) composed of four subunits, each with 732 amino acids. It plays a key role in degrading oxidatively damaged proteins in cells.
