Target Information
West Nile Virus (WNV)는 플라비바이러스과(Flaviviridae)에 속하는 양(+)가닥 RNA 바이러스로, St. Louis encephalitis virus, yellow fever virus, Dengue virus 등을 포함하는 군에 속합니다. 1937년 우간다의 West Nile 지역에서 처음 분리되었으며, 현재 아프리카, 아시아, 유럽 전역에 분포하고 있습니다. 미국에서도 빠르게 확산되어 대부분의 주에서 감염 사례가 보고되었습니다. 바이러스 입자는 RNA 게놈을 둘러싼 코어/캡시드 단백질과 이를 감싸는 막 단백질(Envelope 및 Matrix protein)로 구성되어 있으며, 이는 숙주 세포로의 침입에 중요한 역할을 합니다. 또한 코어 단백질은 caspase-9 경로를 통한 세포사멸(apoptosis)을 유도하여 염증 반응을 일으키는 것으로 알려져 있습니다.
