Target Information

Beta-arrestin-2 (ARRB2) is an adaptor protein belonging to the arrestin family, containing N- and C-arrestin domains. It regulates heterotrimeric G protein-coupled receptor desensitization and modulates beta2-adrenergic receptor (beta2AR) function by enhancing beta2AR-mediated nuclear translocation of ERK.
ARRB2 binds phosphorylated beta2ARs, reducing their ability to activate G(S) proteins. Alongside AIP4, ARRB2 mediates CXCR4 entry into a degradative pathway and may participate in hormone-specific desensitization of TSH receptors.
It also acts as a Ca²⁺-binding protein in retinal outer segments, binds P-rhodopsin, and contributes to synaptic transmission in photoreceptor cells. ARRB2 is widely expressed in neuronal tissues and spleen.
