Target Information
PINK1 (PTEN-induced putative kinase 1) protects cells from mitochondrial dysfunction by modulating autophosphorylation activity on mitochondrial genes. The kinase domain is essential for its protective role. Mitochondrial proteins regulate cellular energy and stress adaptation, especially in brain cells with high energy demands. Dysfunction of mitochondrial processes in the brain is linked to neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s disease.
