SPPL2A는 presenilin과 유사한 intramembrane protease로, N-말단 protease-associated (PA) domain, 여러 transmembrane 영역, hydrophilic loop, 그리고 aspartate 잔기 주변의 보존 서열 및 C-말단의 PAL motif를 포함합니다.
이 단백질은 Dictyostelium discoideum Impas의 상동 단백질 검색과 PCR 클로닝을 통해 Grigorenko et al. (2002)에 의해 확인되었습니다.
