Target Information
Heterotrimeric G proteins are membrane-bound GTPases linked to 7-transmembrane receptors. Each G protein consists of alpha, beta, and gamma subunits and is bound to GDP in the "off" state. Ligand-receptor binding activates the G protein, switching it to the "on" state and enabling Galpha-mediated second messenger signaling cascades.
Galpha proteins regulate adenylyl cyclase activity, modulating intracellular cAMP levels.
