Target Information
Laminins are extracellular matrix glycoproteins and major noncollagenous constituents of basement membranes. They are involved in cell adhesion, differentiation, migration, signaling, neurite outgrowth, and metastasis. Many effects of laminin are mediated through interactions with cell surface receptors, including integrins and non-integrin laminin-binding proteins.
LAMR1 encodes a high-affinity, non-integrin laminin receptor, also known as 67 kD laminin receptor or 37 kD laminin receptor precursor (37LRP). The amino acid sequence of LAMR1 is highly conserved, indicating its essential biological role. Elevated expression has been observed in colon carcinoma and lung cancer cells, correlating with invasive and metastatic phenotypes. Multiple pseudogene copies exist, and two alternatively spliced transcript variants encode the same protein.
