Target Information
Laminins are extracellular matrix glycoproteins and major noncollagenous components of basement membranes. They play roles in cell adhesion, differentiation, migration, signaling, neurite outgrowth, and metastasis. Laminin effects are mediated through interactions with cell surface receptors including integrins and non-integrin laminin-binding proteins.
LAMR1 (Laminin receptor 1) is a high-affinity, non-integrin laminin receptor, also known as 67 kD laminin receptor, 37 kD laminin receptor precursor (37LRP), and p40 ribosome-associated protein. Its amino acid sequence is highly conserved, indicating key biological functions. Elevated levels of LAMR1 have been observed in colon carcinoma and lung cancer cells, correlating with invasive and metastatic phenotypes. Multiple pseudogene copies exist, likely from retropositional events. Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encode the same protein.
