Target Information
DUSP6 (Dual Specificity Phosphatase 6) is a member of the dual specificity protein phosphatase subfamily. These enzymes inactivate their target kinases by dephosphorylating both phosphoserine/threonine and phosphotyrosine residues. DUSP6 negatively regulates MAP kinase family members such as MAPK/ERK, SAPK/JNK, and p38, which are involved in cellular proliferation and differentiation.
Distinct members of this phosphatase family show different substrate specificities, tissue distributions, subcellular localizations, and inducibility by extracellular stimuli. DUSP6 inactivates ERK2, is highly expressed in heart and pancreas, and is localized in the cytoplasm. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
