RUNX1T1는 잠재적인 zinc finger 전사인자 및 온코단백질로 알려져 있습니다. 급성 골수성 백혈병(AML), 특히 M2 아형에서 t(8;21)(q22;q22) 전좌는 가장 흔한 핵형 이상 중 하나입니다. 이 전좌는 RUNX1 유전자의 5' 영역과 본 유전자의 3' 영역이 융합된 키메라 유전자를 형성합니다. 생성된 키메라 단백질은 핵 코리프레서/히스톤 탈아세틸화 효소 복합체와 결합하여 조혈 분화 과정을 억제하는 것으로 알려져 있습니다. 또한 이 유전자는 여러 전사 변이체를 통해 다양한 아이소폼을 생성합니다.
