Assay by immunoelectrophoresis resulted in a single precipitin arc against anti-rabbit serum, purified and partially purified Trypsin (Bovine Pancreas).
Cross-reactivity against Trypsin from other tissues and species may occur but has not been specifically determined.

Target Information

Trypsin is a 24 kDa enzyme of the serine proteinase family. It is produced in the pancreas as an inactive precursor, trypsinogen, and activated in the gastrointestinal tract where it degrades proteins into large peptides. Trypsin prefers lysine and arginine residues and cleaves chymotrypsinogen to produce active chymotrypsin.
High levels of immunoreactive trypsin in the bloodstream can indicate pancreatic malfunction and are used to screen for and diagnose cystic fibrosis.
