Target Information
VLK is a novel protein kinase induced after differentiation of embryonic stem cells into mesendoderm. It is conserved among vertebrates and enriched in the Golgi apparatus, where it may regulate protein export rates. VLK expression transitions from E-cadherin-positive visceral endoderm to E-cadherin-negative mesenchyme. Disruption of VLK in mice results in lung development defects and neonatal lethality. Mutations in VLK may be associated with atopy.
