Target Information
B7-H4 (also known as B7x, VTCN1) is a costimulatory protein that functions as a negative regulator of T-cell mediated immunity. Although its receptor is unknown, B7-H4 is believed to deliver inhibitory signals to T-cells, preventing proliferation, cell cycle progression, and interleukin-2 production.
It is expressed on activated T-cells, B-cells, monocytes, and dendritic cells. Aberrant expression has been linked to cancers of the lung, breast, and ovary.
B7-H4 acts as an immunoinhibitory membrane protein interacting with T lymphocyte receptors, playing a role in cellular and humoral immune response regulation. Overexpression is associated with certain malignancies, including ovarian and breast cancer, possibly enabling tumor immune evasion and progression.
VTCN1 may serve as a biomarker for early detection of ovarian cancer and renal cell carcinoma (RCC).
