Cathepsin L은 세포 내 단백질 분해에 중요한 역할을 하는 리소좀성 시스테인 단백질분해효소입니다. 콜라겐, 엘라스틴 및 α-1 protease inhibitor를 기질로 하며, 근병증, 심근허혈, 신장 단백뇨 반응 등 다양한 병리학적 과정에 관여합니다. Peptidase C1 family에 속하며, 단일 전구체 단백질로부터 생성된 이황화 결합된 중쇄와 경쇄의 이합체 구조를 가집니다. 동일 단백질을 암호화하는 두 가지 전사 변이체가 보고되었습니다.
