BAX는 Bcl-2 패밀리에 속하는 단백질로, 세포사멸(apoptosis)의 조절에 중요한 역할을 합니다. Bcl-2가 항세포사멸 단백질로 알려져 있는 반면, BAX는 세포사멸을 촉진하는 기능을 가집니다.
BAX는 Bcl-2와의 동종 및 이종 다이머화를 통해 세포사멸 경로를 조절하며, 여러 아이소폼(예: Bax alpha, Bax beta)을 가지고 있습니다. Bax beta는 고유한 C-말단을 가지며, 막관통 영역이 없습니다.
BAX의 과발현은 세포사멸을 촉진하며, 다른 BCL-2 관련 단백질들과 이종다이머를 형성할 수 있습니다.
