IL-5는 B 세포와 호산구의 성장 및 분화 인자로 작용하는 사이토카인입니다. 이 단백질은 호산구 생성, 성숙, 활성화를 조절하며, 천식이나 과호산구증후군과 관련된 것으로 보고되었습니다. IL-5 수용체는 IL-3 및 CSF2/GM-CSF 수용체와 β 서브유닛을 공유하는 이형이합체 구조를 가집니다. IL-5, IL-4, IL-13, CSF2 유전자는 염색체 5q31의 120 kb 영역 내에서 장거리 조절 요소에 의해 공동 조절됩니다.
