Target Information
Aquaporin-8 (AQP8) is a water channel protein encoded by the AQP8 gene in humans. It belongs to the aquaporin family of small integral membrane proteins related to the major intrinsic protein (MIP or AQP0).
AQP8 mRNA is primarily expressed in the pancreas and colon, forming a mercury-sensitive, water-specific channel that is not permeable to glycerol or urea. Expression is restricted to pancreas and colon tissues.
