Target Information

Cytochrome c oxidase is the last enzyme in the mitochondrial electron transport chain, driving oxidative phosphorylation. It catalyzes the reduction of oxygen to water and contributes to the formation of an electrochemical gradient across the inner mitochondrial membrane, essential for ATP synthesis. Electrons from reduced cytochrome c are transferred through copper and heme centers to the active binuclear site that reduces oxygen to water.
