Hiwi는 Piwi/Argonaute 단백질 계열의 구성원으로, 생식세포(정모세포 및 둥근정세포)에서 특이적으로 발현됩니다. 또한 CD34+ 조혈 전구세포에서 발현되지만 CD34- 세포에서는 발현되지 않아, 조혈 줄기세포 유지에 관여할 가능성이 있습니다.
