Target Information

Component of the coat protein complex II (COPII) that promotes the formation of transport vesicles from the endoplasmic reticulum (ER).
The COPII coat has two main functions:

1. Physical deformation of the ER membrane into vesicles
2. Selection of cargo molecules for transport to the Golgi complex

SEC24B plays a central role in cargo selection within the COPII complex and, together with SEC24A, may have a different specificity compared to SEC24C and SEC24D.
It may preferentially package cargos with cytoplasmic DxE or LxxLE motifs and recognize conformational epitopes.
