Target Information

DISC1 (Disrupted in Schizophrenia 1) is a multifunctional protein involved in neuronal functions dependent on proper cytoskeletal regulation, including neuronal migration, neurite architecture, and intracellular transport.
It is expressed in the hippocampus, lateral septum, amygdala, cerebral cortex, cerebellum, and paraventricular hypothalamus.

Loss of DISC1 function is associated with structural differences in the brain and linked to schizophrenia due to chromosomal translocations.
DISC1 interacts with various proteins such as MIPT3, MAP1A, NUDEL, alpha-actinin 2, beta 4-spectrin, ATF-4, and ATF-5, playing roles in intracellular transport and neuronal development.
Decreased DISC1 expression accelerates neuronal integration and affects dendritic development and synapse formation.
