Target Information
Human malignant neoplasms carry rejection antigens recognized by autologous, tumor-directed cytolytic CD8+ T lymphocyte clones (CTLs). An important group of these antigens is encoded by the MAGE family of genes. MAGE-1 (Melanoma Antigen Gene 1) is expressed in a significant proportion of human tumors (melanoma, glial-origin brain tumors, neuroblastoma, non-small cell lung cancer, breast, gastric, colorectal, ovarian, renal cell carcinomas) but not in normal tissues. Therefore, MAGE-1 serves as a potential marker for early cancer detection and a target for immunotherapy.
