• Centrifuge if not clear after standing at room temperature.
• Stable for several weeks at 4°C as an undiluted liquid.
• Dilute only prior to immediate use.

This antibody is primarily directed against mature 17 kDa human TNF alpha and also detects primate TNF alpha in similar assays. It does not recognize human TNF beta (lymphotoxin). The antibody recognizes the 26 kDa cell-bound precursor of TNF alpha in immunoblots, especially under denaturing conditions. It is also effective for neutralizing human and primate TNF alpha activity in bioassays but does not neutralize lymphotoxin. For neutralization, incubate the sample with a 1:200 dilution of antibody for at least 4 hours before testing. A control using normal rabbit IgG at the same dilution is recommended.

Target Information

TNF alpha is a multifunctional proinflammatory cytokine belonging to the TNF superfamily. It is mainly secreted by macrophages and binds to TNFRSF1A/TNFR1 and TNFRSF1B/TNFBR receptors. TNF alpha regulates immune responses, cell proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, lipid metabolism, and coagulation. It typically appears as a 17 kDa band on SDS-PAGE under non-reducing conditions. TNF alpha plays roles in immune defense against infections, tumor necrosis, and has been implicated in autoimmune diseases, insulin resistance, and cancer.
