Target Information

The DnaJ family is one of the largest chaperone families with diverse cellular localizations and functions. The J domain defines membership in this family. DnaJ heat shock proteins originate from Escherichia coli and are regulated by the htpR protein. These proteins interact with HSP70 to stimulate ATP hydrolysis and contain cysteine-rich zinc finger regions forming peptide-binding domains responsible for chaperone activity. DnaJ proteins are key mediators in proteolysis, protein degradation, exocytosis, and endocytosis.
DnaJB2 (DnaJ homolog subfamily B member 2), also known as HSJ1 or HSPF3, is predominantly expressed in the brain, especially in the frontal cortex and hippocampus. Two isoforms are produced via alternative splicing.
