GPRs mediate extracellular to intracellular signal transduction via G-protein activation, responding to hormones and neurotransmitters.
GPR41 (also known as FFAR3) is a 346 amino acid multi-pass membrane protein belonging to the G protein-coupled receptor family. It is expressed at high levels in adipose tissue and lower levels elsewhere, functioning as a receptor for short-chain fatty acids that elevate intracellular calcium and inhibit adenylyl cyclase.
