Product Specific Information

  • Store vial at -20°C prior to opening.
  • Aliquot contents and freeze at -20°C or below for extended storage.
  • Avoid cycles of freezing and thawing.
  • Centrifuge product if not completely clear after standing at room temperature.
  • Stable for several weeks at 4°C as an undiluted liquid.

Note: Anti-IkBa may react non-specifically with other proteins. Control peptide (code #100-4167P) competes only with the specific reaction of antiserum with IkBa.

Target Information

IkB-alpha is a 40 kDa protein that inhibits NF-kappaB activity through protein-protein interactions in the cytosol. This interaction masks the nuclear localization sequence of NF-kappaB, preventing its translocation to the nucleus. Various stimuli such as TNF-alpha, IL-1 beta, PMA, LPS, UV irradiation, and viral infection can trigger degradation of IkB-alpha, liberating NF-kappaB to activate gene expression.
In humans, the gene is located on chromosome 14q. Activation of NFkB requires phosphorylation of IkB on serines 32 and 36 by IKK alpha (CHUK). IKK alpha, together with IKK beta and IKK gamma, forms the IKK complex essential for NFkB activation in response to proinflammatory cytokines.
