Target Information
Presenilins, components of the gamma-secretase complex, are essential for intramembranous processing of type I transmembrane proteins such as Notch and beta-amyloid precursor protein. Notch receptor signaling regulates diverse developmental cell fates. Processing of beta-amyloid precursor protein produces amyloid beta peptides, a major component of senile plaques linked to Alzheimer’s disease. This gene encodes a protein required for Notch pathway signaling and gamma-secretase activity.
