Target Information
G protein-coupled receptors (GPRs) are a family of transmembrane receptors that transmit extracellular ligand signals into intracellular G protein activation. This signaling mechanism is conserved across eukaryotes for environmental sensing and cell communication.
All GPRs share seven membrane-spanning domains, with extracellular loops containing conserved cysteine residues forming disulfide bonds for structural stability.
GPR103 is a 455-amino-acid protein highly expressed in the brain, retina, trigeminal ganglion, hypothalamus, and vestibular nucleus. In peripheral tissues, it is expressed in the heart, kidney, and testis, and may regulate adrenal function. The hypothalamic neuropeptide 26RFa acts as an endogenous ligand for GPR103.
