Target Information
PDPK1 (3-Phosphoinositide Dependent Protein Kinase 1) phosphorylates AGC kinases and activates conventional PKC and PKC zeta through phosphorylation of key threonine residues in the activation loop.
It also phosphorylates Protein Kinase B (PKB/Akt) at threonine 308 in the presence of phosphatidylinositol-3,4,5-trisphosphate. Activated Akt inactivates Glycogen Synthase Kinase 3 (GSK3), leading to glycogen synthase activation and glycogen synthesis stimulation.
Because PDPK1 plays a crucial role in insulin-induced glycogen synthesis and PKC activation, it is considered an important target for metabolic drug research.
