Target Information
Vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) is a neuroprotective factor that stimulates the growth of some tumor cells and inhibits others.
The ADNP gene encodes a protein upregulated by VIP, potentially mediating its stimulatory effects on certain tumor cells.
The encoded protein contains one homeobox and nine zinc finger domains, suggesting a transcription factor function.
It is upregulated in normal proliferative tissues and may enhance cell viability via modulation of p53 activity.
Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been described.
