Target Information
Catalyzes intramembrane proteolysis of certain signal peptides after cleavage from preproteins, releasing fragments from the ER membrane into the cytoplasm. Required for generation of lymphocyte surface (HLA-E) epitopes derived from MHC class I signal peptides. May play a role in graft rejection and in removal of signal peptides attached to hepatitis C virus core protein after initial processing. Involved in intramembrane cleavage of PSEN1 and XBP1 isoform 1 in a DERL1/RNF139-dependent manner.
