Target Information
PACS2 is a multifunctional sorting protein that controls endoplasmic reticulum (ER)–mitochondria communication, including the apposition of mitochondria with the ER and ER homeostasis. In response to apoptotic inducers, PACS2 translocates BID to mitochondria, initiating mitochondrial truncated BID formation, cytochrome c release, and caspase-3 activation, leading to cell death. PACS2 may also be involved in ion channel trafficking, directing acidic cluster-containing ion channels to distinct subcellular compartments.
