This intronless gene contributes to:
- Repair of DNA double-strand breaks via homologous recombination
- Recruitment of SMC1-SMC3 cohesin complex to double-strand breaks
- Telomere maintenance through recombination in ALT (alternative lengthening of telomeres) cell lines
- Sumoylation and disassembly of shelterin complex within ALT-associated PML bodies (APBs)
