Product Specific Information
- In Western blots, no cross-reactivity with recombinant human AgRP, Artemin, beta IG-H3, Cripto-1, drosophila Decapentaplegic, GDNF, LAP, Latent TGF-beta 1, Lefty-A, MIS, Neurturin, mouse Nodal, mouse Persephin, TGF-alpha, TGF-beta 1, TGF-beta 1.2, TGF-beta 2, TGF-beta 3, or amphibian TGF-beta 5 is observed.
- Reconstitute at 0.5 mg/mL in sterile PBS.
Target Information
Persephin is a disulfide-linked, homodimeric neurotrophic factor structurally related to GDNF, artemin, and neurturin. These proteins belong to the cysteine-knot family of growth factors that form stable dimeric structures. Persephin signals through a multicomponent receptor system composed of RET and one of four GFRα receptors (α1–α4). GFRα4, first identified in chicken, is the preferential binding subunit for Persephin. Persephin promotes the survival of ventral midbrain dopaminergic neurons and motor neurons after sciatic nerve axotomy, and, like GDNF, promotes ureteric bud branching. However, unlike GDNF and neurturin, Persephin does not support the survival of peripheral neurons.
