Target Information
Iron regulatory protein 2 (IRP2) is a key post-transcriptional regulator of cellular and systemic iron metabolism. It is a cytosolic RNA-binding protein that recognizes stem-loop structures and is regulated by iron-mediated proteolysis.
IRP2 plays an important role under hypoxic conditions, which are relevant in physiological and pathophysiological processes such as cardiovascular diseases and tumor growth. Because iron and oxygen metabolism are closely linked, IRP2 is also involved in hypoxia responses.
